Victims of Terrorism


The Special Violent Crimes Squad (D.A.E.E.V.) of the Hellenic Police is directly under the Chief of the Hellenic Police and has territorial jurisdiction over the whole territory of the country (Article 29, P.D. 14/2001).
It includes the following departments:
- Department for Combating Domestic Terrorism
- Department for Combating International Terrorism
- Department of State and Polity Protection
- Operations and Controls Department
- Department of Administrative Support
- Department of Technical and Network Intelligence Management

24-hour telephone service for terrorism issues. The confidentiality of the communication and the anonymity of the individual calling are fully guaranteed (caller identification not possible).

In January 2021, the Office for the Support of Victims of Terrorism was established in the Ministry of Citizen Protection which aims to support victims of terrorist attacks and their relatives. This Office is responsible for:
- Providing information and assistance of all kinds to victims of terrorist attacks and their relatives, as well as facilitating communication with the relevant public services and private bodies providing support.
- Informing victims and their relatives about the commemorative events held in Greece and abroad and facilitating their participation in these.
- Participation, in cooperation with other public bodies, in the planning, organization, and implementation of commemorative events for victims of terrorism.
- Maintaining constant contact and communication with victims and their relatives.
- Supporting civil society organizations in organizing actions to support victims.
- Networking and cooperation with relevant services and offices of the European Union and other states and international organizations, as well as victims’ organizations abroad.

Following the establishment of the Office for the Support of Victims of Terrorism in April 2021 and pursuant to a decision by the Minister of Citizen Protection, the Permanent Committee for the Support of Victims of Violence and Terrorism was established at the Ministry of Citizen Protection, whose mission it is to conduct research and make proposals for the creation of a framework of integrated actions to support victims of violence and terrorism.
